Quality of the made tea is dependent on various factors like correct withering, precise preconditioning of leaf in Supervane (Rotorvane), desired level of sizing, maceration & shaping in CTC, correct chemical reactions during fermentation and uniformity of the transfer during drying. All these can only be achieved to the required level, if the processing of withered leaves in the Supervane can be ensured to take place at a uniform rate maintaining correct pressure, which would automatically balance the productivity of all the machines from the Supervane downstream up to the Sorting section.

Feeding of withered leaves to the Supervane is normally done manually. In this method, it is never possible to maintain uniform pressure to get uniform cutting & crushing, as feed rate has been observed to vary typically between –50% to even more than +200% of the desired rate during manual feeding. Steelsworth RFU is designed to deliver a uniform discharge rate of withered leaf within +/- 5% of set rate at the Supervane input irrespective of feed irregularity by the operator at the feed end. The system consists of a controller and a conveyor belt passing over a weighing zone. Withered leaf is fed at the feeding zone and travels to the discharge zone at the other end over the conveyor belt. The controller senses the weight of the leaves as the conveyor belt passes over the weighing zone and adjusts the speed of the belt accordingly, so that the discharge rate is maintained to its pre-set value, irrespective of the feed rate at the other end.
